I'll Tell You Mine, If You Tell Me Yours!

One of the best things about college is the freedom you get. I made the choice to move off campus my sophomore year, and never went back. Throughout my time at West Chester I was fortunate enough to live with my best friends and sisters. Although we did not stay in the same house for more than one year, we stuck together! From our 'brothel' on Walnut Street to our 'mansion' on Matlack Street, we called West Chester home.

Although I love going out and enjoying the typical "college" lifestyle, some of my favorite times with my friends involved watching Etv, shoving our faces with chips and queso and ranting about our lives. I always knew that I had a friend around to hangout or take a trip to Wawa with. The girls I lived with for the past four years graduated last semester, leaving me to fend for myself in terms of a living situation. Due to the fact I only had one semester to complete, signing a lease was out of the question. I was lucky enough to find a sublet within biking distance of campus. Although I have a room mate, I don't see her often  and we don't have much in common. I've missed my friends an unbelievable amount this semester. Although they are gone, I'm still here!

Nothing says college, like great time spent with friends. Some of my best memories are just hanging out in my living room with my ZTA room mates. Please share some of your favorite memories you had over this past semester with your friends/room mates. Why was it so memorable?

Breast Cancer 5K Was a SUCCESS!

Zeta Tau Alpha’s West Chester Chapter held their annual Breast Cancer 5K at WCU’s South Campus gymnasium this past Sunday.  They raised an impressive $8,927.83, exceeding their goal of $5,000.  The proceeds of the event go to the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation, which is in partnership with Susan G. Komen for the cureOver 300 people attended the event, with 137 participants pre-registered.  This year’s event had the best turn out since the event began.

Chapter president, Danielle Lewis said, “It was truly a team effort.”  Zeta Tau Alpha’s 5K is one of the largest events sponsored by greeks on campus.  Director of the event, Kira Shollenberger said, “It’s so wonderful to see ZTA’s hard work pay off!”  Co-chairing the event was Amanda Miller, Maggie Kissinger, and Caroline Henderson. “It’s easy to run an event we’re so passionate about. This is something that affects our mothers, grandmothers, sisters and neighbors,” says Henderson, Junior at West Chester University.

“The size of the event is amazing!” said Sharon Mallon past director of the event.  Mallon was the first director to hold the event on South Campus.  Prior, the event was held in the Purple Gym and only consisted of a walk around town.  “Each year the chapter shows so much more initiative and passion for their philanthropy,” said chapter advisor Bridget Higginbotham.  It’s important to put our everyday lives aside and help those who need it.  Those who attended gave up a Sunday morning, however those with breast cancer have to give up so much more.

October is almost here!

October is a very important month to me! Besides the fact that October is my birthday month, it is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. ZTA chapters from all over the country raise awareness by handing out pink ribbons and shower cards. All month people will wear pink to to support the cause. The Eta Gamma chapter at West Chester University decorates the town pink as well as holds an annual 5k on October 14, 2012. There will be awesome raffels, music and light refreshments. Registation will begin at 9 am in the Sturzbecker gym on South Campus at WCU. Registration fee is $10 for students and children and $15 for adults (water and t-shirt included). Please comment on here if you are interested in joining!

Happy Bid Day!

This is the first year that I have not attended Bid Day. One of the reasons I always loved Bid Day was because of the ZTA pride me and my girls had. We were supposed to yell and cheer and prepare for a new pledge class. With my new alumni status, I've never felt so disconnected. Although I wasn't very involved last year, I still had to attend meetings and events. This year I'm not responsible for anything Zeta.

Luckily my three closest sisters visited last night. They graduated in May, and we unfortunately hadn't seen each other since then. It was so nice to have them back with my in West Chester. Although we are done with sorority life, sister life is forever.

Welcome!

The Eta Gamma Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha at West Chester University of Pennsylvania has been active since 1776.

The Creed of Zeta Tau Alpha:
To realize that within our grasp, in Zeta Tau Alpha, lies the opportunity to learn those things which will ever enrich and ennoble our lives; to be true to ourselves, to those within and without our circle; to think in terms of all mankind and our service in the world; to be steadfast, strong, and clean of heart and mind, remembering that since the thought is father to the deed, only that which we would have manifested in our experience should be entertained in thought; to find satisfaction in being, rather than seeming, thus strengthening in us the higher qualities of the spirit; to prepare for service and learn the nobility of serving, thereby earning the right to be served; to seek understanding that we might gain true wisdom; to look for the good in everyone; to see beauty, with its enriching influence; to be humble in success, and without bitterness in defeat; to have the welfare and harmony of the Fraternity at heart, striving ever to make our lives a symphony of high ideals, devotion to the Right, the Good, and the True, without a discordant note; remembering always that the foundation precept of Zeta Tau Alpha was Love, “the greatest of all things.”
